These are really the base to the souls-ish feel that make third person a little more interesting (I won't say better, though). You can't just swing your mouse around if you miss your mark with your sword, once you swing you commit. Mortal Enemies so that the player and enemies commit to attacks.

If you still want to try it out for yourself, here are some of the mods I used.Ĭustomizable Third-Person Camera / 3PCO if you want a more "dynamic" cameraĬustomizable UI Replacer can emulate a lot of game UI's Mods can do a lot, but really unless you want it to feel like "kind of like Dark Souls, but a little more clunky and unresponsive" I say make do with what Requiem has to offer ). I got kind of close, but even then it doesn't feel right. Really it's a challenge to get it how you want, because the foundation of it all (Vanilla Skyrim combat) just doesn't allow for vast changes to the combat in the way you and I wanted.

I spent a good portion of early 2018 trying to accomplish something similar with Requiem, but instead of Severance, I was looking to emulate Dark Souls as much as possible. You can potentially dismember the undead even when they are alive, and precise cut to the head will ensure the heads gets flown off like it's suppose to, you can chop enemies corpses into pieces & guess what, you can pick the parts up & throw it to another enemies and deal damage. Each slash felt pretty real as Souls, enemies do use shield very effectively and they too have their deadly combos. In contrast Souls has watered down the combo system to much simpler 3-4 hit button mashing & focus more on tactics defend & timing of attack. It's not as crazy as Devil May Cry but it's something like Souls Kick & Jump attack but requires timing (which can be delayed) & different inputs. You have a stamina bar that depletes with each movement & regenerates, the character will pant when exhausted & won't be able to move.Ģ.Other than the basic combo for each type of weapons, many weapon has it's own special combo, and special attributes. As such the character is more agile and you are given more freedom. For souls most move cannot be combined or are limited. OK here's the breakdown why the combat system is so great:1.The movement of the characters are just like Souls, you can run, jump, dash jump, parry & slash (instead of diving), but many of these movements can be combined to come up with your own fighting style. Good execution was always so satisfying.Īlso, here is an excerpt from Severance:BOD vs Dark Souls discussion (not relevant), it puts into words what I loved about Severance: Here is another video of a minor boss fight that also adds some background info.Īnyone else remembers? Got tips to recreate Severance: Blade of Darkness feeling in Requiem?Įdit: This video shows some hightlights of a more proficient combat from the game. I hope it gets across from watching the video (watch the pace, commitment of attacks and combos, stagger). Today I saw this video (watching few seconds is enough) of an old game I used to play and I instantly knew what my Skyrim lacked. I fell in love with Requiem while I played it 2 years ago, I had lots of fun with the way the game was set, but I was missing something during melee combat.
